Unfortunately, my family’s worst fears came to light when we learned our brother had been arrested and hauled off to jail. His behavior prior to this was very erratic so I can say, we were not too surprised. For days we were all calling each other trying to figure out how to help him. Something made much more difficult by the fact that he lived cross country from us and had been pretty effective in alienating himself from the family for the past several years.
Our shock, fear, concern and anxiety was calmed almost the minute we got a referral to Carmine at Intervention Allies. With one phone call to him, he took charge of the situation for us. He spoke to each of us individually to get a clearer picture of my brother, and listened to us without judgement of either my brother or our relationship with him. He was very clear as to his goals for the intervention and did a “pre-meeting” with us so that we were clear on our roles and comfortable with them. He was also very clear that the goal was support and acceptance of our brother, rather than blame or attacking him.
I am relieved to report that my brother is now in what appears to be a good inpatient treatment facility where he is getting help. Again, from being across country, Carmine helped us in choosing the appropriate facility and getting our brother all registered before the intervention.
